Forestry: Forest Plan
Visitor facilities - proposed new forest trail and visitor centre
Arlen Hill Forest is used for informal recreational purposes, primarily by families, hikers, cyclists and birdwatchers. There is one waymarked trail and one cycling trail for mountain biking. Our aim is to open up more of the forest for informal recreational purposes and particularly for increasing awareness of wildlife in the forest.
Objectives and Proposals
- We propose to open up the northern Conservation Area of the forest for sensitive use by visitors by building a new Visitor Centre with informative interactive dispays on wildlife and the forest environment; providing the opportunity for use by local schools and community groups as well as general forest visitors. The proposed Visitor Centre will include toilets, a main display area and a forest school learning and activity hub for groups and families.
- We propose to create a new waymarked nature activity trail aimed at engaging young people and increasing visitor knowledge and experience of wildlife and nature in the forest.
