Forestry: Forest Plan

Visitor parking at the forest

Arlen Hill Forest has seen an increase in visitor numbers in recent years. This has increased more than ever as a result of the Covid pandemic, as local residents choose to spend their leisure time outdoors and close to home.

There is pressure on the existing car parks and we recognise the need to improve parking capacity and facilities. Currently there are three official Forestry car parks, as well as a number of unofficial parking places adopted by forest users. Some of the unoffical parking places result in blocked access gates and tracks needed by Forestry workers, others can cause road safety issues for visitors and other drivers on the surrounding lanes.

Objectives and Proposals

  • We are proposing to increase the size of the northern car park, which currently has space for 24 cars. Proposals for expansion would add another 30 places.
  • We are proposing to add an additional car park with space for approximately 20 cars at a location best suited to cater to visitor demand.
5. Where do you park most often when you visit Arlen Hill Forest? Place a pin on the map to show the locations where you most often park, whether official car park or unofficial roadside verge or gateway. (You can place up to two pins).
